Sam Asgari officially divorces from Britney Spears and gets marital support from the pop star
The petition, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, states that Asgari is asking Spears to pay attorneys' fees.
Sam Asghari cited "irreconcilable differences" in his petition for divorce from singer Britney Spears, according to the suit obtained by NBC News Thursday.
The petition, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, states that Asgari will seek spousal support from his estranged wife. It states that Asgari is asking Spears to pay his attorney's fees.
“The petitioner must still determine the full nature and extent of each party’s separate real estate assets and liabilities,” the lawsuit states. “Petitioner reserves the right to amend this petition or to match the petition for evidence.”
A source familiar with the couple's situation told NBC News on Wednesday that the two have separated, with Asgari moving out of the house the couple was living in and living in his own.
Asghari posted a statement on his Instagram story Thursday afternoon that he and Spears had decided to "end their journey together" after six years of "love and commitment."
"We will hold on to the love and respect we have for one another and I wish her the best always," Asghari wrote. "S---it happens. Asking for privacy sounds ridiculous [sic] so I'm going to ask everyone including the media to be nice and thoughtful."
Representatives for Spears, 41, and Asgari, 29, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
