The US State Department denies the rumors published by Moroccan media hours ago, after Algeria became the new target for the Americans, due to a Facebook post about a year ago.

In which Washington decided to impose sanctions on the Algerian state because of its economic and military relations with Russia. Please note that the speakers in the video accompanying this misleading message.

They refer to calls to impose sanctions on Algeria in September last year, but the Moroccan media took advantage of that again after the Algerian president's visit to Moscow a few days ago.

They tried to raise concerns about the United States of America, which in turn rejected what happened and denied in an official statement what was published recently against Algeria.

by some US elected officials. Then they denounced Algeria's purchase of Russian weapons, which in their opinion amounted to financial support for Moscow, against the background of the war in Ukraine. However, these appeals were not crowned with success, and no sanction has yet been adopted against Algeria.

“Algeria is the new target of the Americans: the American Parliament decides to punish Algeria for its alliance with Russia”: can we read in the commentary of the video, which garnered 550,000 views, 6,500 comments and 3,500 shares.

We can see two men arguing in English on a TV. In their dialogues, which included interventions by specialists and American political leaders, they summoned letters issued by elected officials calling on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to impose sanctions on Algeria "because of the arms agreements with Russia."

The call for sanctions comes from "both Democrats and elected Republicans" who are highly critical of the fact that "Algeria is buying massively and in large part Russian weapons," as they specified. The speakers realize that "Blinkin is under no obligation to respond to the requests of the elected officials [who sent him the messages]".

But they believe that the foreign minister "could lean in favor of sanctions based on the situation in Ukraine," referring to Russia's invasion of that country. The two men on set frequently mention the acronym CAATSA (Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) as the basis for possible sanctions against Algeria.

Russia is Algeria's largest military supplier. Algeria is also among the four largest buyers of Russian arms globally, culminating in a $7 billion arms deal in 2021. The flow of money into Russia, whatever its source, will only serve to strengthen the Russian war machine in Ukraine,” the senator wrote in particular.
