The Russian government announced Monday that it will not renew its commitment to Ukraine's grain export agreement, which is set to expire today.

The aforementioned agreement was reached with mediation by Turkey and the United Nations in July of 2022, and it will officially end at 5 pm Monday (midnight local time in Istanbul, Kiev and Moscow). The agreement allowed Ukraine to export grain from its ports and sail them through a safe passage at sea. Lions, to the Turkish Bosphorus Strait.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Unfortunately, the part of the Black Sea agreements related to Russia has not yet been implemented," and continued: "Therefore, the agreement was terminated, and as soon as the obligations related to the Russian side are fulfilled, the Russian side will return to the implementation of this agreement immediately."

The Russian government has officially notified Turkey

The Russian government has officially notified Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations that it will allow the agreement to expire, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told state news agency RIA Novosti on Monday.

Peskov denied that Russia's decision to allow the deal to be canceled was related to Ukraine's alleged raid on the Crimean Bridge, which connects mainland Russia to occupied Crimea.

"These are two completely separate issues," Peskov said. "Even before the terrorist attack, the decision was announced by President Putin, and I repeat once again, when the obligations on the Russian side of the Black Sea agreements are met, Russia will immediately return to abide by the deal."
