Historical allegations of sexual assault against Kevin Spacey
The crimes are believed to have occurred between 2001 and 2013, and allegedly took place during most of the decade he was living in the UK. Spacey served as Artistic Director of the Old Vic Theater until 2015.
He was first questioned by British police in 2019. The two-time Academy Award winner had previously said he would voluntarily appear in court to face the charges.
The 63-year-old actor said that if he is acquitted of the charges, he will be looking forward to reviving his career.
Spacey won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1999's American Beauty and Best Supporting Actor in 1995's The Usual Suspects.
The allegations in 2017 led to the delisting of Netflix's political thriller "House of Cards," in which he played the lead character, Frank Underwood.
Spacey was found "not guilty" in a US civil case
In October last year, a US jury found him not liable for sexual misconduct in a civil court.
Spacey was accused of making unwanted sexual advances against actor Anthony Rapp in 1986, when he was 14 years old.
The jury found that the plaintiff was unable to prove his allegations against Spacey.
The allegations were made during the height of the #MeToo movement in 2017 that were among those that upended Spacey's career.
The trial is scheduled to take place over the next four weeks.
